Downtown DisneyWhen visiting Disneyland, spending time in the Downtown Disney District is a must. The area is filled with interesting and unique restaurants, shops, street venders, and street musicians. I wasn’t able to get very close to this musician, there were so many people around. But you could hear his music floating through the area. Everyone was gathered around to see what was making this haunting yet beautiful music. His instrument was a rotating collection of crystal rounds that he played with his fingers. It worked the same as sliding your finer around the top of a crystal glass, only this allowed him to play it like a piano.

Sadly I wasn’t able to purchase his music to find out who he was, but I did have a chance to film him at the end of his evenings performance. It’s a short video clip, that will give you just a glimpse of beautiful music he created. Lots of people were asking questions, while he played. Sorry I wasn’t able to get a better video. Maybe on one of our future visit he’ll be back.

The glass harmonica, also known as the glass armonica, hydrocrystalophone, or simply armonica, is a type of musical instrument that uses a series of glass bowls or goblets graduated in size to produce musical tones by means of friction (instruments of this type are known as friction idiophones).

Every time we take a trip to Disneyland, we spend at the least one evening strolling the Downtown Disney District, taking in the sights and awesome sounds of the street musicians. exploring new restaurants, and of course doing some very necessary shopping

Here is a little video taken as we strolled through the Downtown Disney District at night. With all of the lights and people and music, it gives the viewer a sample of the nightly atmosphere.

Just returned from our September 2008 trip to Disneyland, it was a birthday trip for our daughter (12) and granddaughter( 7). While there we made one of our usual strolls through downtown Disney District, and luckily Alturas was there performing again.

I love listening to them play, they always gather a large crowd of people enjoying their music and some can’t resist the urge to dance.
